Privacy policy

I'm Easy is run by Oisín Dorgan, based in London, United Kingdom, who is the data controller for everything described here. You can reach us at hello@im-easy.app.

What we collect

• Your account. If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile photo, and nothing else. If you sign up with a password we hold your email address. We never post anything to your Google account.
• What you put in the app. Your username and profile, the posts you write, the photos you upload, your ratings and comments, the places you save, and who your friends are.
• Location, when you use the camera. Saving a place by photo sends your location so we can work out which venue you are looking at.
• Basic usage analytics. Cookieless, and not tied to your identity.

Why we are allowed to hold it

We process your account details and your content to provide the app you asked to use, which is our contract with you. We process analytics on the basis of our legitimate interest in knowing whether the app works. Where we ask for your camera or your location, we rely on the permission you grant at the time, and you can withdraw it in your device settings.

Who else sees it

• Your friends. Posts, photos, ratings and saved places are visible to the friends you have accepted, and to nobody else in the app.
• Our hosting and database providers, who store the app and its data on our behalf.
• A provider that identifies the venue from your photo. When you save a place by camera, the photo is sent to them to read what is visible in it.
• Our maps provider, which receives your location to list nearby venues as candidates, and which supplies place details and the map itself.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising. We use these providers on terms that do not permit them to train their own models on your content.

Where your data goes

Some of these providers are in the United States. Those transfers are lawful under the UK's adequacy arrangements and the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

How photos are stored

Photos you post are stored on a content network and served from long, random links. Anyone holding one of those links can open the photo without signing in, and a link that is shared or leaked keeps working. We never publish those links, and the app itself only shows your photos to your friends, but the protection is that the link is unguessable rather than that access is checked each time. This is one of the reasons the app is invite-only. We will revisit it if I'm Easy grows beyond friends of friends.

We strip location information out of the photo file itself when you upload it, so your photos do not carry a hidden record of where they were taken. That is separate from the location you send us when you save a place by camera, which we do use, and which is described above.

How long we keep it

Your account and its content stay until you delete them. Deleting your account removes your profile, posts and comments, and sweeps your stored files. Photos taken through the camera flow are kept after the place has been identified rather than being deleted at that point. Analytics are aggregated and not tied to you.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to hello@im-easy.app and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK, at ico.org.uk. If you are in the EU or Ireland you can complain to your own national data protection authority instead.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and we will tell you in the app if the change is significant.
